Congratulations to Key Biscayne resident Eddie Easton and Capt. Courtney Vernon (of Capt. Harry’s Tackle shop fame!) for winning the first leg of the Bahamas Wahoo Championship at Port Lucaya Marina, Grand Bahama Island. The smallest boat in the fleet at 34’, Capt. Harry’s braved some atrocious weather conditions to edge out veteran Wahoo angler Marshall Leeds fishing on “Svengali” captained by Rick Redecker. “Svengali” did manage to catch a very nice 70 pound Wahoo to earn the Heaviest Wahoo award. Third place honors went to “Zephyros”, a Nassau, Bahamas based boat owned and captained by Basil Goulandris.
The Bahamas Wahoo Championship now moves on to the second leg and we are on our way to
Old Bahama Bay, West End, Grand Bahama Island. YES, Old Bahama Bay is OPEN and the management is offering special participant rates for those persons fishing the Wahoo tournament February 17-20, 2010. Old Bahama Bay has always been a favorite with Wahoo fishermen because of its location, attention to service and the shorter runs to the fishing grounds. Two previous Wahoo Championship legs at Old Bahama Bay were extremely successful, and weather permitting we are expecting a very nice turnout.
